Climate: here it is truly tremendous. Where else is it programmed to rain only at night, so that the sun shines nearly every day? OK so the farmers and orchardists are pleading for extra rain at the moment, but the holiday planners and pharmacies are looking forward to more sun tan lotion and sunglasses sales to go with the processing of digital photographs taken of this beautiful region. Enough of boring talk of weather!
2005 highlights:
- 90th Birthday celebrations in Te Anau for Grandma [Bess] Sim brought huge gathering of relations together. All Garrett clan together again for some time. Plenty of Sim cuzzies too! Not to mention older generation with Peter Sim, and Mary McIntyre. Lots of photos on website. See below.
- Visited Brisbane for Nick Tzvetkoff’s birthday – great family time – and went on to Darwin and Kakadu National Park, Katherine Gorge etc. Hot time in all respects!
- Saw Rob & Vicki’s new “Townhouse” in Mosgiel – stepping stone to building in Outram?
- Found old grave marker for Garrett ancestor, John James, in Allanton and arrangements are in hand for a replacement monument to be unveiled on April 1st next year – when Robert Lovell Garrett will be 70. Family welcome!
- Malcolm had his yDNA sampled to confirm the relationship between his Garrett family line on the Isle of Man and that of David Garrett in USA. It was successful in confirming what we knew by surnames and dates etc.
- Watched with amazement the raising of the Round Tower on the hills at Mahana for the Ross family Seat. Spectacularly different and spacious, and due to be completed by 2010 by best estimates but habitable by Christmas it is vowed by Trish.
- Admired the garage with a fancy concrete apron and the new bridge over the ford [thank goodness] at Milne homestead, in Golden Bay
- Started own blogsite – see references
